Back in April last year, Sarah and I left our apartment in San Francisco, put our possessions in storage, and set about relocating to the UK. I was pretty apprehensive about the move (there's a reason I've found myself living outside the UK for many years) but, without the prospect of an extension to my US H-1B visa, it seemed worth a shot. Unfortunately, we were never able to truly settle, and found ourselves unintentional nomads as we explored different bits of the UK looking for somewhere to set down our bags. There have been some wonderful moments, but it's been an emotionally challenging and expensive ride, and one I'd not care to repeat any time soon.

Now we find ourselves with a little time to pause, I wanted to reflect a little on the journey we've been on. I suspect this might be one of many posts on the subject so I thought I'd simply start with the facts--Airbnb happily reminds me that we've stayed in 23 places since April 15th 2022 (we've become worrying discerning Airbnb guests), so location seems like a good place to start.
