Since writing about using Möbius Sync and Syncthing to keep files synchronised on my iOS devices (see ‘Syncthing and iOS’), I’ve noticed that, by default, Möbius Sync files are included in iCloud backups. With hundreds of gigabytes already in Syncthing and a separate backup solution for those files, this just makes backups slower, more costly, and significantly complicates the restoration process. Fortunately, it’s possible to disable iCloud backups for just Möbius Sync. The setting is, however, a little hard to find, so I thought I’d document it here for future reference (and in case it helps someone else).

  1. Open Settings:

  2. Tap on the row that showing your name to reveal your Apple ID settings:

  3. Tap on ‘iCloud’ to reveal your iCloud settings:

  4. Tap on ‘iCloud Backup’ in the section entitled to ‘Device Backups’ to reveal backup settings for all your iOS and iPadOS devices:

  5. Tap on your current device (‘Kotoko’ in my case) in the section named ‘All Device Backups’:

.Identify ‘Möbius Sync’ in the list of apps and flip the switch to turn off syncing.
